The Minister of Youth and Sports said that the tax exemption facility for athlete prizes is being prepared.

Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir said that state facilities in the form of tax exemptions on prize money for athletes who excel abroad are being discussed with the Ministry of Finance.

"We are currently discussing with the Minister of Finance, and we have begun discussing whether the state can provide facilities for our athletes who excel abroad to receive prizes and bring their winnings back to Indonesia (tax-free)," Erick Thohir told the media in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The Minister of Youth and Sports wants Indonesian athletes who receive prizes for their achievements in international competitions abroad to be able to enjoy the fruits of their hard work optimally.

He gave examples such as men's singles badminton player Jonatan Christie who received tens of thousands of US dollars in prizes or women's tennis player Janice Tjen who received hundreds of thousands of US dollars.

The Minister of Youth and Sports wants athletes to be able to bring home prize money to Indonesia tax-free so they don't feel tied down after struggling to bring honor to Indonesia on the international stage.
