The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) destroyed 75 illegal telecommunications devices from the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) and Central Java to maintain governance of radio frequency spectrum utilization in Indonesia.
The Acting Director General of Digital Infrastructure at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, Ervan Fathurokhman Adiwidjaja, emphasized that the government views the radio frequency spectrum as one of the country's strategic assets.
"If this space is filled with illegal transmitters and unlicensed devices, it will not only affect signal quality but also public safety and telecommunications services," Ervan said in Sleman, Yogyakarta Special Region, on Thursday.
According to him, this destruction action aims to protect various vital services such as the quality of telecommunications networks, flight safety, the reliability of disaster systems, and others.
The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs destroyed 75 illegal telecommunications devices confiscated as a result of actions taken by the Yogyakarta Class I Radio Frequency Spectrum Monitoring Center (Balmon) and the Semarang Class I Radio Frequency Spectrum Monitoring Center.
The devices destroyed included 15 devices from the results of the Yogyakarta Balmon action, consisting of assembled frequency transmitters, microwave link devices , access points and GSM repeaters .
Then 60 devices from Balmon Semarang consisting of radio broadcast exciters , ethernet switches , media converter routers , and modems were used without proper permission.
Ervan explained that the approach taken to regulating illegal telecommunications devices was not repressive from the start, but rather gradual and prioritized guidance.
