West Java Regional Police are working to bring Rizki home from Cambodia

The West Java Regional Police are working to secure the return of Rizki Nurfadilah, a young man from Bandung Regency who was previously reported to be a victim of human trafficking (TPPO) in Cambodia.

West Java Regional Police Public Relations Chief Senior Commissioner Hendra Rochmawan said Rizki is currently at the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh and is safe.

"We will coordinate with the Regional Police Chief. The Regional Police Chief fully supports the repatriation of the person concerned," Hendra said on Thursday.

Hendra stated that Rizki's repatriation process involves a special mechanism because he is not a victim of human trafficking. However, the West Java Regional Police are still coordinating with the Indonesian Embassy.

"Because this is not a human trafficking victim, there is a separate clause that states that we will return the victim and that the Indonesian Embassy will assist us, but there will be a fee," he said.

According to him, Rizki was known to have made false confessions to his parents and the public to gain sympathy.

He revealed that Rizki registered himself through social media and knowingly accepted a job as an online fraud operator in Cambodia.

"He realized he'd be a scammer there for that salary. He only speculated about whether it would be good or not, but he spoke to his parents about being a football player at PSMS Medan," he said.

He said that upon arrival in Indonesia, Rizki would be asked for information regarding the chronology of his departure.

"When he returns, we will ask for information from the process of his departure to the incident there," said Hendra.

Previously, the family revealed that Rizki had been lured into taking part in the PSMS Medan football team selection by someone he met through social media Facebook.

However, instead of being taken to Medan, he was taken to Cambodia and forced to work as an online fraud operator targeting Chinese citizens.
