1.4 tons of chilies from Aceh enter Jakarta

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has received 1.4 tons of red chilies from Aceh, which were then sold to the public through Pasar Jaya outlets.

"We started sourcing chilies from Aceh last Friday. We took 1.4 tons," said Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno while inspecting Senen Market Block III, Central Jakarta, on Monday.

He stated that the quality of chilies from Aceh is quite good and in demand. The chilies are being sold for IDR 40,000 per kilogram (kg), below the market price of IDR 50,000 per kg.

The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) is opening up opportunities for collaboration with Aceh for chilies through a contract farming scheme , a system of cooperation between farmers and companies for agricultural production.

"The Governor also agreed that we should have contract farming with local areas. If our friends in Aceh could stock chilies in Jakarta, that would be much better," said Rano.
