This competition will provide an opportunity for countries in Asia to play more structured, scheduled and competitive matches.
"This step is part of the AFC's ongoing efforts to enhance development opportunities for Member Associations (MAs) and build a more structured and sustainable international competition framework," the AFC's official website said on Sunday.
The AFC introduced this competition as an effort to address the challenges faced by Asian national teams in finding suitable test opponents. High operational costs and a lack of competitive value often detract from the essence of international matches. The AFC is unwilling to allow this situation to continue.
AFC Nations League matches will be added to the FIFA calendar, starting next year in March. This competition has already been played in Europe.
