The Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas) has ensured that natural gas distribution in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) is safe ahead of the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year holidays."BPH Migas is conducting field monitoring of gas network users in Yogyakarta to ensure that distribution to consumers is not disrupted during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year holidays," said BPH Migas Committee Member Baskara Agung Wibawa in Yogyakarta.
In his statement Baskara said that based on monitoring results, the supply of natural gas in the region is sufficient and safe.
However, BPH Migas still asked PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN), as the gas network operator, to make optimal preparations, including ensuring the reliability of gas infrastructure during the long holiday period.
"We ask PGN to ensure everything runs smoothly so that people can enjoy the Christmas and New Year holidays comfortably," he added.
In addition to ensuring the readiness of gas supplies for household and commercial needs, BPH Migas also inspected the pressure reducing station (PRS) in Sleman, DIY.
This facility functions to reduce gas pressure from the high-pressure transmission network to a safe level for customers.
Baskara explained the importance of PRS Yogyakarta because the facility distributes compressed natural gas (CNG), making it a pilot project for providing clean, natural gas-based energy to areas far from gas sources.
"This is a pilot project , and we want to see how it operates, the price, and the public's ability to pay, so that it can be replicated in other cities," he said.
Thus, he continued, consumers who are far from gas sources can still enjoy gas fuel, namely CNG, which is then connected to the gas pipeline to people's homes.
BPH Migas also continues to encourage the replication of similar facilities in various regions so that more people can gain access to natural gas.
