The doctor stressed that breast cancer is a disease that can be effectively prevented , noting that when detected early, it can be successfully treated.
He explained that a healthy lifestyle and proper nutrition play a pivotal role in prevention. The diet should include fiber-rich foods , as they are a source of phytoestrogens, which reduce the risk of endocrine-dependent tumors. Limiting alcohol consumption is also essential, as drinking 100 ml of alcohol daily increases the risk of breast cancer by 10%.
He pointed out that childbirth and subsequent breastfeeding are important preventative factors. According to scientific studies, breastfeeding for 12 months reduces the risk of developing the disease by 4.3% , and each subsequent birth reduces the risk by 7% , while emphasizing that breastfeeding should not continue under unfavorable conditions.
Dr. Ignatov also advised all women and girls, starting from adolescence, to visit a breast specialist once a year. He recommended a breast ultrasound and, after the age of 40, a mammogram , as these examinations allow for the early detection of any abnormal growths.
