Although Facebook remains a popular app, it has lost its position as a central platform for cultural and social discussions compared to its past. Other platforms owned by Meta, such as Instagram, now occupy that position.
Mark Zuckerberg, the company's CEO, has stated that his goal is to bring Facebook back to the forefront of cultural influence, in the way it was in the past.
Now, Facebook, which is owned by Meta, has launched a series of changes that appear to be inspired by Instagram and focus on bringing users back to the app.
These changes include a new feed layout that makes it easier to view and find posts. They also include options borrowed directly from Instagram, such as the ability to tap on a photo to view it in full screen, or to double-tap a photo to like it.
The app itself will undergo a redesign to make it easier to find key features, such as Reels and Marketplace, in the tab bar at the bottom of the screen, which is also similar to Instagram.
Facebook will also make posting easier for users. Similar to Instagram, users can tap to add a post to their Stories or main feed, add music, or tag friends quickly.
The company stated in its announcement: "These improvements are just the beginning of making Facebook less cluttered and easier to use, so you can focus on the people and interests that matter most to you." It also indicated that more new features and changes will be introduced next year.
