ChatGPT became the most installed free iPhone app and game in the United States (US) in 2025, according to Apple's annual list of the most downloaded apps and games.
According to a TechCrunch report on Wednesday (10/12), the number of installations of OpenAI's artificial intelligence chatbot application exceeded popular applications such as Threads, Google, TikTok, WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube, Google Maps, Gmail, and Google's Gemini.
Last year, ChatGPT ranked fourth and the top spot on the list was occupied by the Chinese shopping app, Temu.
In 2023, ChatGPT hasn't even made the top 10 despite showing a strong debut performance on iPhone after its release in May 2023.
Signs that ChatGPT was moving towards the top rankings were already visible as early as 2025.
ChatGPT in March 2025 became the most downloaded app globally, surpassing TikTok and Instagram.
