Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca questioned the consistency of refereeing decisions after the 1-1 draw against Arsenal, particularly regarding the red card for Moises Caicedo, which was deemed deserved but not in line with other decisions in other matches.
Maresca stressed that he did not have a problem with Caicedo's red card, but he highlighted the referee's inconsistency.
"It was a red card. But why wasn't Bentancur's foul on Reece a red card during the away game against Spurs?" he said, as quoted on the club's official website in Jakarta on Monday.
Caicedo was sent off by referee Anthony Taylor after a VAR review for a late tackle on Mikel Merino seven minutes before half-time. Despite playing with 10 men, Trevoh Chalobah gave Chelsea the lead in the 48th minute before Merino equalized just before the hour mark.
Maresca said that other incidents, such as Piero Hincapie's elbow on Chalobah, also deserved a red card. "The referee told me it wasn't an elbow, but Chalobah had a black eye, and the referee didn't make a decision," Maresca said.
