Coordinating Minister for IPK: Infrastructure readiness is key to facing a surge in mobility
Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development  Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono  said that weather anticipation and infrastructure readiness are key to facing the surge in mobility during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year holiday.

He stated that the surge in public mobility during the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) period had been predicted early on, making risk mitigation, including weather anticipation, a serious priority for the government. Coordination with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) continues to be strengthened to ensure the readiness of all transportation hubs until next January.

"Every year, we face an increase in public travel. Therefore, weather awareness and infrastructure readiness are key. The government is also implementing policies to reduce travel costs so people can travel safely, comfortably, and affordably," said AHY in a statement.

He added that smooth transportation during Christmas and New Year not only impacts people's mobility but also drives the regional economy.

Travel activities are believed to drive real economic activity, including for MSMEs in various regions.

AHY directly reviewed the comfort of the infrastructure at the Nusantara Pura Pelindo Passenger Terminal, Tanjung Priok Jakarta.

The government is ensuring the readiness of the national transportation sector to face the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) traffic by strengthening coordination across ministries and state-owned enterprises.

Meanwhile, the Director of Operations of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) or Pelindo Putut Sri Muljanto explained that Pelindo has prepared operational steps to ensure the smooth flow of passengers and logistics at all ports during the Christmas and New Year period.

"To support the smooth flow of crossings, Pelindo has resumed operating Ciwandan Port as a supporting port for Merak Port," said Putut.

Since December 19, some truck and motorcycle traffic has been diverted to Ciwandan to reduce congestion.

Supporting facilities such as parking areas, health services, and emergency workshops are also provided for service users.

In addition to strengthening physical infrastructure, Pelindo relies on digital systems for operational control. The implementation of Integrated Planning and Control, a Terminal Booking System, and enhanced truck and driver identification systems are part of efforts to control vehicle flow and prevent congestion in the port area.
