Extensive Israeli bombardment of Gaza... and warnings of a health and environmental catastrophe in the north
The shelling comes as part of Israel's ongoing violations of the agreement. The Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that Israeli gunboats fired shells and machine guns into the sea off Gaza City, just tens of meters from the tents of displaced people, causing widespread fear among them.

In the central sector, Israeli artillery shelled several areas on the eastern side, while Israeli helicopters fired randomly towards Palestinian homes in the same area.

In the southern Gaza Strip, Israeli warplanes launched airstrikes on areas east of Khan Younis, while army vehicles fired machine guns towards areas west of Rafah, which is entirely under its control.

Since the ceasefire agreement came into effect, Israel has committed hundreds of violations, resulting in the deaths of 410 Palestinians and injuries to 1,134 others, according to official figures.

This comes as the North Gaza Governorate Municipalities Association warned on Saturday of a humanitarian and environmental catastrophe, stressing that Israel destroyed about 90% of water wells, 80% of water and sewage networks, and 90% of the municipalities’ heavy machinery during the two years of war.

The group explained, during a press conference held in the Al-Fakhura area in the northern Gaza Strip, that more than a quarter of a million tons of waste are accumulating in the streets and alleys, as municipalities are unable to remove it due to the destruction of most transport vehicles and a shortage of fuel.

The municipalities group called on the international community and humanitarian organizations to intervene urgently to save what remains of the basic necessities of life in the northern Gaza Strip, demanding the provision of fuel and equipment necessary to operate water wells and sewage pumps, and the entry of relief and reconstruction materials, in light of Israel’s disavowal of its obligations stipulated in the ceasefire agreement.

Israel is reneging on its commitments under the ceasefire agreement to open the crossings and allow the entry of the agreed quantities of food, relief, medical supplies, reconstruction and shelter materials.

The agreement ended a war of extermination that Israel began on October 7, 2023, and which lasted for two years, leaving about 71,000 Palestinian martyrs, more than 171,000 wounded, and massive destruction that affected 90% of the civilian infrastructure, with reconstruction costs estimated by the United Nations at about $70 billion.
