For years, Gmail addresses have been treated as permanent digital identities, but that old rule appears to be about to change.
Google has now started rolling out a new option that allows users to change their Gmail address, giving Gmail users more flexibility to update outdated usernames or improve old choices without having to create a completely new account, The Indian Express reported on Friday (26/12) local time.
The tech giant said it is rolling out a new option that will allow users to change their email address even if it ends in “@gmail.com”.
Until now, Google only allowed account email address changes for users who signed up using a third-party email address, while the Gmail address itself could not be changed.
