Deputy Chairman of Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Syaiful Huda, said that the fatal bus accident at the Krapyak Toll Exit Interchange, Semarang, Central Java, should serve as an early warning for the government to prevent similar incidents in the future. He also urged the Ministry of Transportation and other relevant policymakers to immediately implement a comprehensive strategy to ensure safety across all transportation channels, including land, sea, air, and rail.
"The tragedy on the Krapyak Toll Road is both a deep sorrow and a warning to us all. With an estimated 119.5 million people traveling for homecoming, New Year's celebrations, and tourism, the government has no room for tolerance for even the slightest negligence," Huda said.
According to him, the Ministry of Transportation needs to conduct ramp checks or safety inspections on a massive and comprehensive scale. He doesn't want speculation about fleet unsafety or reckless driver behavior due to work pressure to become a common occurrence during the peak holiday season.
"There should be no zombie buses or buses that are unroadworthy that are forced to operate to meet the high demand," he said.
