Indonesia is fielding seven golfers to compete in the golf event at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, consisting of four male athletes and three female athletes.
Indonesian national golf team coach Alga Topan said the selected athletes were the result of a selection process conducted over the past year, including a series of tryouts in several Asian countries.
"We've been preparing independently for the past year, and then over the past month, we've been undergoing intensive training," Alga told ANTARA by phone on Thursday.
The Indonesian Golf Association (PB PGI) previously named 10 athletes for the main selection stage. The men's athletes include Randy Arbenata Bintang, Kenneth Henson Sutianto, Rayhan Abdul Latief, Asa Bakthi, and Amadeus Christian Susanto.
From the women's sector, Bianca Naomi Laksono, Thea Jessica Tan, Elaine Widjaja, Rayi Geulis, and Sania Talita Wahyudi were called.
Through a selection process that included tryouts , technical training, physical training, and course management , seven athletes were finally chosen to represent Indonesia at the biennial sporting event.
"We're preparing the national training camp at 150 percent capacity. This is part of our ongoing training program, which will ultimately select the best," Alga said.
Regarding the competitive landscape, Alga stated that Thailand as the host, along with Vietnam and Malaysia, are still countries to watch out for.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports is targeting two gold medals for golf. "That's a reasonable target, as in the last few SEA Games, we lost in the final and finished with silver," he said.
At the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia, Indonesia won a silver medal in the women's team (Elaine Widjaja/Holly Victoria Halim) and a bronze medal in the men's team consisting of Amadeus, Rayhan, Randy, and Jonathan Xavier Hartono.
