Speaking to Fritz welcomed Indonesia's achievements in the 2025 SEA Games, which secured second place in the medal standings with 91 gold medals, 112 silver medals, and 130 bronze medals.
"That's very good. We need to appreciate the achievements of the athletes, coaches, officials, and other stakeholders," Fritz told ANTARA in Jakarta on Saturday.
Fritz noted that this achievement was historic, marking the first time in 30 years that Indonesia had finished second in the medal standings without hosting the SEA Games, following the 1995 edition in Chiang Mai, Thailand
Furthermore, the 91 gold medals in the 2025 edition also marked the highest number of gold medals won by Indonesia when it was not hosting the SEA Games. The previous best achievement came 32 years ago, when Indonesia won the overall championship in the 1993 SEA Games in Singapore with 88 gold, 81 silver, and 84 bronze medals.
According to Fritz, these achievements deserve appreciation, but he asked Indonesian sports stakeholders not to be complacent.
Fritz reminded that in the 2025 SEA Games, two measurable sports that deserve significant attention are swimming and athletics.
"We need to prepare seriously, especially since next year we have the 2026 Asian Games (Aichi-Nagoya), and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics is not too far away. We must ensure that the athletes' times are sufficient to qualify and, if possible, secure a medal," he said.
