The Indonesian National Police (Polri) revealed that one of the methods used in human trafficking (TPPO) cases involving Indonesian citizens (WNI) in Cambodia is to promise or lure victims with jobs as computer operators.
"The victim and her husband were lured by someone claiming to be an operator there to work for the company, promising a salary of Rp 9 million per month," said the Director of Certain Crimes (Dirtipidter) of the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency, Brigadier General Moh. Irhamni, in a press conference regarding the repatriation of nine Indonesian citizens who were victims of human trafficking from Cambodia at the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency building.
After the victim was interested in the job offer, he continued, the sponsor prepared all documents such as passport, visa, and departure ticket.
However, upon arrival in Cambodia, the victim's passport was taken by the sponsor and the victim was taken to where they worked online scamming .
"After arriving at Phnom Penh Airport, Cambodia, the victim was picked up by taxi and taken on a four-hour ride. It was their first time in Cambodia and they didn't know where the location was, so they accepted it. It turned out he was being hired as a scammer ," he said.
