The Russian government has blocked the online gaming platform Roblox, as reported by local state media, TASS.
As reported by Tech Crunch on Thursday, in the report, the Russian communications agency cited the presence of LGBTQ-themed content as one of the main reasons for the blocking.
Russia has regulations that define public advocacy related to LGBTQ issues as a form of extremist activity, making such content a violation of national law.
Roblox is known to be a platform for various interest-based communities, ranging from military-themed role-playing games to LGBTQ solidarity groups. To date, Roblox has not issued an official response to the ban.
This blocking comes amid global scrutiny of safety and content moderation issues on Roblox. Previous reports have highlighted the vulnerability of underage users to child predators.
