The U22 national teams of Thailand and Vietnam kicked off their campaign in the men's football competition at the 2025 SEA Games by securing wins in their respective groups on Wednesday.
Quoted from the 2025 SEA Games page, the Thai U22 national team defeated Timor Leste with a score of 6-1 in the Group A match, while Vietnam defeated Laos 2-1 in Group B.
In the match at Rajamangala Stadium, Bangkok, Thailand, which hosted the 2025 SEA Games, won thanks to three goals from Yotsakorn Burapha (44', 70', 22'), plus one goal each from Siraphop Wandee (49'), Iklas Sanron (60') and Kakana Khamyok (83').
Timor Leste narrowed the scoring gap through Palamito Caffin (90+3').
Thailand currently leads Group A with three points from one match. Timor Leste is at the bottom of the standings. Group A consists of three teams: Thailand, Timor Leste, and Singapore.
In Group B, at the same stadium, Vietnam defeated Laos with two goals from Nguyen Dinh Bac (28', 60'). Laos equalized in the 33rd minute through Khampane Douangvilay.
This result puts Vietnam at the top of Group B with three points from one match. Laos sits in third place, bottom of the group, which also includes Malaysia.
In the next men's football match, Saturday (6/12), Singapore will face Timor Leste in Group A and Malaysia will meet Laos in Group B.
The Indonesian U22 national team, in Group C, will begin their match against the Philippines on Monday (December 8th) and will then face Myanmar on Friday (December 12th). Group C also only consists of three teams: Indonesia, Myanmar, and the Philippines.
In men's football, the top three teams from each of the three groups advance to the semifinals. The other top four team will be the best runner-up from the group stage.
