Deschamps said during an interview with Al-Sharq on the sidelines of the World Sports Summit in Dubai, regarding the secret behind his following of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations matches: “Of course, because we have a competitor (in the group stage of the World Cup) in the tournament, which is Senegal. Although it is the end-of-year holiday period, when you are passionate about football, which is also my job, I follow, perhaps not all the matches completely, but a fair number.”
Regarding his predictions for the teams favored to win the title, Deschamps said: "It's always the same. Even in the World Cup, we always talk about the same teams, but surprises happen sometimes. But the best African teams are competing and they have outstanding players who play for the best clubs."
He also stated that he did not want to make any of the African teams jealous (by choosing one of them), and hoped that the best team would win. But he added, laughing, upon learning that the reporter was Egyptian, "Well, Egypt , Cameroon, Morocco ... everyone is a contender."
