Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir stated that the Education Fund Management Institute (LPDP) scholarship program for athletes will be improved, including scholarships for undergraduate programs.
"LPDP will also be revised because so far, it's only for Masters and Doctoral degrees. Not for Bachelors. Well, this means it will also be revised in the decision," said Erick Thohir while giving a statement to the media crew in Jakarta on Thursday, along with the General Chair of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI).
He said this was related to changes in government policy to support progress in the youth and sports sector in Indonesia.
The Minister of Youth and Sports explained that the policy change regarding scholarships for athletes had been approved by President Prabowo Subianto as part of a long-term program for the future of athletes.
He said that from his side, he actually wanted athlete scholarships to start not only from undergraduate programs but also from the Senior High School (SMA) level.
"Yes, because the athletes themselves should prepare early," he said.
Furthermore, the Minister of Youth and Sports explained that various policies to support youth and sports development in Indonesia will also be discussed further at the 2025 Indonesia Sport Summit (ISS) which will take place on December 6-7 at the Indonesia Arena, Senayan, Jakarta.
At the event, a number of ministers will be present as speakers, including those from the ministry in charge of education, which manages scholarships.
The Minister of Youth and Sports added that development in the youth and sports sector cannot be carried out solely by the ministry he leads, but rather requires collaboration with other ministries, one of which relates to scholarships for athletes.
