The PWI chairman said that disaster reporting must prioritize the humanitarian aspect.
Chairman of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) Akhmad Munir emphasized that disaster reporting should not merely convey statistical data and dramatic visuals, but should prioritize the humanitarian aspect.

According to Munir, the presence of the press in a disaster situation plays a key role as a reference point, helping the public maintain a clear mind when faced with uncertainty, panic, and anxiety. In such situations, accurate, verified, and balanced information is a fundamental public need.

"Disaster reporting is essentially about humanity. It should not be reduced to statistics about victims, damage, infrastructure, or dramatic visuals," Munir said during a discussion titled "Mass Media Kaleidoscope 2025" at the Press Council Building.

He emphasized that journalistic ethics must be the primary foundation of any disaster coverage. These ethics, Munir continued, are not intended to restrict press freedom, but rather to uphold the honor of the journalistic profession.
