The PWI chairman asked the state to be present to help strengthen the media industry.
Chairman of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI), Akhmad Munir, has called on the government to assist in strengthening the national media industry, which is currently facing pressures related to both business sustainability and technological change.

Munir believes that the press, often referred to as the fourth pillar of democracy, requires state intervention to ensure freedom, sustainability, and adaptation to technological developments.

"When the state is present to ensure freedom, ensure sustainability, and ensure we are in line with technological progress, the press will live forever when the fourth democracy is understood, regardless of the regime," Munir said during the "Kaleidoscope of Mass Media 2025" discussion.

Munir also warned that the current threat to press freedom comes from the dominance of capital, both internal and external. In such a situation, state protection is crucial to prevent press freedom from being eroded by economic interests.
