The United States will allow Nvidia to export its H200 AI chip to China.

The United States Department of Commerce has reportedly approved Nvidia's H200 artificial intelligence (AI) chip exports to China to government-approved customers.

According to a CNBC report quoted in a TechCrunch broadcast on Monday (8/12), the United States government will take 25 percent of the proceeds from the sale of the chip.

The H200 chip is a high-end AI chip that is much more advanced than the H20, a chip that Nvidia developed specifically for the Chinese market.

While allowing H200 exports to China, the United States government only allows shipments of H200 chips that are approximately 18 months old to the country, according to a Semafor report .

"We appreciate President Trump's decision to allow the American chip industry to remain competitive and support the creation of good-paying jobs and manufacturing in America," an Nvidia spokesperson said in an email to TechCrunch .

He said offering H200 to commercial customers who have been vetted and approved by the Department of Commerce is a wise and good balance for America.

Trump said Chinese President Xi Jinping "responded positively" to the recent decision on H200 chip exports in a post on the social media platform Truth Social on Monday.

The new news about the H200 chip export permit comes a week after US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stated that the decision regarding the chip exports rests entirely with President Donald Trump.
