Tips for maintaining mental health from the onslaught of social media exposure
Anti-aging physician and health content creator, Dr. Clarin Hayes, M.Biomed (AAM), shared several tips for maintaining mental health despite excessive exposure to social media content.

Clarin explains that the digital era brings various impacts on a person's psychology, starting from social media addiction, fear of missing out (FOMO) or the fear of being left behind from certain trends that are widely discussed, and anxiety due to comparing oneself with what is seen on social media.

"Studies also show that social media increases rates of anxiety, depression, and loneliness," Clarin said at the "2025 National Digital Literacy Activists Meeting".

He added that several studies have also found a link between online activity and feelings of loneliness. He believes that online socializing cannot completely replace face-to-face interaction. Digital communication tends to be shallow and doesn't build as strong emotional bonds as in-person meetings.

Furthermore, excessive exposure to information from social media can also trigger cognitive overload . This condition causes a person to experience difficulty focusing, become easily distracted, and have difficulty completing tasks.
