In Los Gatos, California, there is a retirement community called The Terraces, which uses virtual reality (VR) technology and provides a peaceful residence for a group of seniors who are no longer able to travel far or undertake daring adventures.
The ABC website, Thursday (25/12) local time, reported that with this technology, elderly residents can still relive the exciting times of wandering and seeking sensations every time the caregivers at the community schedule a session.
In a matter of minutes, the VR headset can transport them, who are on average 80-90 years old, to Europe, dive into the depths of the ocean, or fly in a breathtaking paragliding experience, all while they sit close to each other.
This selection of VR programs is curated by Rendever, a company that transforms sometimes isolating technology into a catalyst for improved cognitive function and social connection at 800 retirement communities in the United States and Canada.
A group of The Terraces residents who took part in a VR session earlier this year were seen swinging their arms beside their chairs as if swimming with a pod of dolphins, while watching one of Rendever's 3D programs.
