Walking in winter may not be safe for cardiovascular health because colder temperatures can put stress on the heart.
Senior Director & Head of the Cardiology Department, Fortis Vasant Kunj Hospital Dr. Tapan Ghose explained that morning walks during winter increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes because blood vessels narrow and increase blood pressure.
"Cold temperatures cause our blood vessels to constrict, which can increase blood pressure and make the heart work harder. This effect is especially noticeable in the morning when body Temperature is lower and the ambient temperature is at its lowest," said Ghose.
