Dr. dr. Nastiti Kaswandani, Sp.A(K), a member of the Respirology Coordination Unit of the Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI), said the public needs to be aware of the increase in influenza cases that cause acute respiratory infections, including the viral H3N2 variant known as "superflu."
Nastiti said the term "superflu" in influenza cases is due to its rapid transmission, especially in cold regions or countries. It can be dangerous with mild to severe symptoms because it is transmitted through droplets or saliva from coughs or sneezes and direct contact with the respiratory fluids of infected people.
"Well, the problem may be that one of the reasons for the term 'superflu' is its rapid transmission, so one person can infect 2-3 people around them. It is estimated that this variant may be able to infect more people, but there has been no research on this," said Nastiti in a discussion "Recognizing and Being Aware of Superflu" held online.
