Experts have warned against a daily habit that may seem ordinary, simple, and convenient, but it may harm your skin in the long run, and then you will be surprised by premature aging on your face.
A daily habit that harms your skin and accelerates the appearance of wrinkles
Washing your face under very hot water, especially in winter, may accelerate skin aging without you realizing it, despite the temporary feeling of relaxation that a hot shower provides.
Dr. Annette Phillips, a beauty specialist at Forever Facial Aesthetics, confirms that using hot water is one of the most prominent skincare mistakes she notices daily.
She explains that very hot water weakens the skin's protective barrier, which is responsible for retaining moisture and protecting it from dryness. When this barrier is damaged, the skin becomes dull and tight, and fine lines and wrinkles become more visible, especially around the eyes and mouth.
The problem isn't limited to water temperature; it extends to bad bathing habits. Many people wash their faces with body wash or let shampoo and conditioner run directly over their facial skin, even though these products aren't designed for that purpose.

Dr. Phillips points out that these practices may eventually lead to dry, sensitive, and rough skin, noting that many people think their skin suddenly looks older, when the real reason is over-cleaning with unsuitable products.
According to Phillips, the solutions lie in simple but effective changes; the most important of which is to stop washing the face with very hot water, and replace it with warm water while showering, then clean the face later at the sink using lukewarm water and a gentle facial cleanser.
She adds: "If you feel a tightness in your skin after washing, this is a clear indication that the water or cleanser used is too harsh."
It also emphasizes the importance of moisturizing the skin immediately after cleansing, as applying moisturizer to slightly damp skin helps to retain moisture and gives the skin a smoother and fresher appearance.
As for those with dry or sensitive skin, she advises them to avoid experimenting with too many new products, and to stick to the basic products that the skin is used to, while giving it enough time to recover, because time is part of the healthy recipe.
