A study by Chinese scientists has shown that the juice of whole pomelo fruits, including the pulp and peel, reduces inflammation in the body and facilitates the removal of mucus secretions from the respiratory tract.

Analyses conducted during the study revealed that the juice of whole pomelo fruits is rich in flavonoids known for their antioxidant properties, such as hesperidin, naringenin, baicalin, and apigenin, and that the proportion of these substances is equivalent to 950 mg per 100 of this juice.

In laboratory experiments conducted on cells, pomelo juice inhibited the production of anti-inflammatory molecules such as nitric oxide, interleukin-6, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) in immune cells, mimicking the reduction of the inflammatory response.

In tests conducted on mice, scientists observed that the juice increased immune secretions in the trachea and reduced lung tissue damage by decreasing the infiltration of inflammatory cells.

The researchers noted that the data they obtained appeared in the pre-clinical studies phase, but despite that, the results indicate the possibility of adopting pomelo juice as a functional drink that helps to promote respiratory health, support immunity, and fight infections.
