Alwi won two straight games with a score of 21-11, 21-12 over Taiwanese representative Chi Yu Jen in the 35-minute match.
"I never expected to make it this far. I could say my game was decent, but not great. Maybe my opponent was under pressure from the crowd," Alwi said after the match.
