Alwi Farhan uses the Malaysia Open to gain points during 2026
Men's singles player Alwi Farhan said the 2026 Malaysia Open is a crucial opportunity to kick-start the 2026 season, particularly in accumulating points to qualify for the 2026 BWF World Tour Finals.

The Super 1000 tournament, which took place at the Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur, from January 6–11, was the opening event for the season calendar and the starting point for players to hunt for points for the series of tournaments throughout the year.

"I'm proud to be in the Super 1000 from the start of the year. The new year means starting from scratch, and the race to Hangzhou is back on track," Alwi said in an official statement from the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) on Sunday.

According to Alwi, the season-opening tournament always presents its own challenges because all the players come with renewed enthusiasm and motivation.

He chose to focus on showing his best game without being burdened by short-term targets.

"In this first tournament, everyone has a new spirit, a new enthusiasm, and so do I," he said.

Alwi hopes the positive momentum from the end of last season will provide the foundation for a consistent start to 2026. He stated that the opportunity to compete in Super 1000 tournaments from the start of the season should be maximized.
