Bangka Police Chief, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, AKBP Deddy Dwitiya Putra, appealed to all beach visitors enjoying New Year's Eve to pay attention to the high tides.
"I remind beach visitors, whether on New Year's Eve or during the holiday, to pay attention to wave conditions when swimming at the beach," he said in Sungailiat, Bangka Belitung, Wednesday.
He said, for those who want to swim at the beach, they should ensure that the sea waves at the beach remain safe, and if there are high tides, they should postpone swimming to prevent any unwanted incidents.
"Parents who bring children should look after their children when bathing at the beach and don't leave them alone," he said.
According to him, tidal waves can occur at any time without the knowledge of beach visitors.
"We have deployed a number of police personnel along with TNI personnel and other officers from the local government to provide security services for beach visitors," he said.
Beach visitors who require information or security services should contact the beach security post provided.
The Head of the Bangka Regency BPBD, Rusmansyah, said that to support the police and the TNI, his party had deployed officers to a number of beaches such as Matras Sungailiat Beach, Tuing Beach and other tourist attractions.
"BPBD officers urge beachgoers to remain vigilant when swimming in the sea," said Rusmansyah.
He asked all visitors to tourist attractions to maintain safety and comfort together, not to throw rubbish carelessly which could pollute tourist attractions.
