Influenza and acute viral respiratory infections become more prevalent during the cold season, so it is essential to adhere to specific rules to prevent influenza and its complications.
According to Dr. Vladislav Zhemchugov, a specialist in serious infectious diseases, the fundamental rule of prevention is carefully selecting clothing appropriate for the weather; otherwise, the immune system may be weakened, increasing the likelihood of contracting an infection that could have serious consequences. Isolation is also a key factor in preventing the spread of viruses, so it is essential that people exhibiting cold symptoms do not go to work.
He says: "Employers should be flexible and allow employees to work from home for a few days if they show the first signs of a cold, in order to avoid infecting all office workers."
He notes that if a family member becomes ill, nasal drops can be used as a preventative measure, as they are currently among the best treatments for external infections. Ventilating rooms is also very important.
Regarding vaccination, we must know that immunity is formed at least two weeks after receiving the vaccination, meaning that its effect does not begin immediately.
According to him, if symptoms of a respiratory viral infection appear, the first thing to do is take the temperature. It is important to keep it below 37.5 degrees Celsius, and if the person experiences chills or a headache, they should not allow it to rise. By following this rule, the cold may disappear within a few days.
He adds: "If the patient can keep his temperature low, no complications will occur. But if the symptoms do not disappear after three days, he should consider taking antibiotics, but only as prescribed by a doctor."
