By 2050, health wearables could potentially generate a million tons of e-waste
This week in Las Vegas, technology companies at the world's largest technology event, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2026, showcased a variety of the latest wearable health devices , ranging from glucose monitors and blood pressure trackers to fitness trackers.

However, what was likely not discussed at the expo is that these devices could pose a huge environmental problem, Tech Crunch reported  local time.

This issue rarely receives attention. However, a recent study from Cornell University and the University of Chicago found that by 2050, demand for wearable health devices could reach 2 billion units per year, or 42 times the current level.
