Meta's Threads social media platform is currently testing a game feature within chats , which is currently in the internal prototype stage and not yet available to the public.
a Meta spokesperson confirmed that the company is developing the feature internally. The prototype features a simple basketball-themed game that allows users to simulate throwing a ball into a hoop by swiping the screen.
The existence of the prototype was first revealed by reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, who often finds features that are still in the development stage.
The screenshots he shared show the game's mechanics, which are designed to allow users to compete with each other to score the highest within the conversation.
If released, the inclusion of games in Messages could give Threads an advantage over other platforms like X and Bluesky, which don't yet offer similar features. The feature also has the potential to differentiate itself from other messaging services, including Apple Messages, which supports games through third-party apps.
