Tchiroma denies being in talks with Paul Biya

In Cameroon, Issa Tchiroma Bakary claims to have not initiated any negotiations with the Biya administration.

Cameroon's opposition leader said in a statement that he "never intended to negotiate his electoral victory, neither before, nor during, nor after the vote".

His party the Front for the National Salvation of Cameroon (FSNC) has decided to boycott the next legislative and municipal elections.

Rumors have recently swelled on social media of alleged talks between the two parties following last year's disputed presidential elections.

Denying these allegations, the FSNC spokesperson indicated that "Any political party that participates condones irregularities and is complicit".

Aged 92, Paul Biya is the oldest head of state in the world and has been in power since 1982. He was re-elected for an eighth term in October. But Issa Tchiroma, exiled in Gambia, still declares himself the real winner of the vote.
