Djokovic, who has won the Australian Open title 10 times, defeated Zandschlup 6-3, 6-4, 7-6.
This was Djokovic’s 400th Grand Slam victory, the highest number for any player in the Open Era, and also his 102nd win at the Australian Open, equalling Roger Federer’s all-time record for wins at the tournament.
“It was a good start to the tournament,” said Djokovic, 38, in comments published on the official website of the Association of Tennis Professionals, regarding his physical condition. “But I’m not getting ahead of myself. I learned a lesson last year, as I progressed too quickly in some Grand Slam tournaments. Now I’m trying to put these young players under real pressure. I’m still here and I’m still holding on.”
