A report by the technical director of the Egyptian national team, Hossam Hassan, submitted to the Football Association after the end of participation in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, revealed three main recommendations to strengthen and develop the team’s performance in the next stage.
Sources within the federation explained that the report praises the players' performance and behavioral discipline during the tournament, but focuses on the need for radical reforms in the Egyptian football system to keep pace with the great leap that African football is witnessing.
Hossam Hassan stressed the need to work on facilitating the transfer of Egyptian players to professional clubs abroad, especially young and up-and-coming players at an early age, and to communicate with European and African clubs to allow talents to leave at a young age, which would contribute to strengthening the national team with players with high experience and advanced technical levels.
The report indicated that the large number of foreign players in the Premier League has negatively affected the opportunities of Egyptian players in some sensitive positions, such as left-back, center-back and striker, calling for a significant reduction in the number of foreign professionals to provide more opportunities for Egyptians, which would enhance competition among local players and raise their level.
The technical director called for obligating clubs to give players born in 2005, 2006 and 2007 the opportunity to actually participate in Premier League matches with their teams, with the aim of giving them the necessary experience and accelerating their integration into the first team in the future.
These recommendations are part of a comprehensive vision for the development of Egyptian football, and will be discussed in the Football Association meetings in the coming days to make executive decisions.
The Egyptian national team finished fourth in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament held in Morocco this January, after losing in the semi-finals to Senegal and in the third-place match to Nigeria.
