European leaders welcome Trump's decision to suspend tariffs on Greenland
European leaders welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement on Wednesday of a framework for a future agreement on Greenland and his decision to suspend plans to impose tariffs on several European countries.

"Today ends on a better note than it began. We welcome that POTUS (Trump) has reiterated that he will not take Greenland by force and has suspended the trade war," wrote Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen on the X platform.

"Now, let us sit down together and find a way to address America's security concerns in the Arctic region while respecting the Kingdom of Denmark's red lines," he continued.

Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof said the move was positive because it showed that the parties were on the path to de-escalation, and that tariffs would not be imposed.

Schoof reiterated the importance of cooperation between the US, Canada, and Europe within the NATO framework to strengthen security in the Arctic region and counter threats from Russia and China.

Meanwhile, Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard said at X "it is a good decision that Trump is now also withdrawing from the tariff plans against us that have supported Denmark and Greenland."

"The demand to move the border has received strong and well-deserved criticism. That's why we've repeatedly stated that we won't allow ourselves to be blackmailed. It seems our cooperation with our allies has borne fruit," Stenergard said.
