Italy: the +Europa party demonstrates in Rome against the presence of the ICE at the Winter Olympics

 

Members of the Italian +Europa party demonstrated outside the US Embassy in Rome to denounce the reported presence of agents of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during the Olympic Games in winter of Milan-Cortina. Protesters whistled and held signs hostile to ICE, one of which depicted Italian leaders as the "three monkeys of wisdom". MP Riccardo Magi called the issue political and criticized the Italian government's position, calling for a clear stance. Several MEPs, for their part, asked the European Union to examine possible restrictions on ECI activities in Europe, citing concerns related to democratic control and respect for human rights.
