Janice Tjen beats seed to advance to second round of Australian Open
  Indonesian tennis player Janice Tjen advanced to the second round of the Australian Open after defeating 22nd seed Leylah Fernandez in straight sets in the first round at ANZ Arena, Melbourne Park, Tuesday.

Janice, entering her first Grand Slam main draw, got off to a strong start. Although her opponent, the 2021 US Open runner-up, rallied in the second set, Janice prevailed in a tiebreak to secure a 6-2, 7-6(1) victory.

In the match that lasted one hour and 43 minutes, Janice narrowly outperformed Leylah with four aces and 17 winners, and successfully converted four of seven break point opportunities, according to match statistics quoted from the official Australian Open website.

In the first set, Leylah managed to steal the lead in a tight first game. However, Janice easily leveled the score. The Canadian then regained the lead with a third game, but from there, Janice took control of the match, winning five straight games.

The second set was a tight affair, with both players going back and forth. Janice led 3-1, but Leylah fought back to take a 4-3 lead.
