Indonesian national team head coach John Herdman revealed that his coaching career began at the age of 17, before obtaining his UEFA license at the age of 20.

Herdman's coaching career didn't begin as a professional soccer player, but through hard work and dedication, he proved he could make a name for himself in the world, including leading Canada to the 2022 World Cup after a 36-year absence.

"I started coaching at 17. I got my first qualification at 18. I got my UEFA license at 20, so I have an obsessive personality when I commit to something and I want to do it all the way," Herdman said in an exclusive interview broadcast on the Indonesian national team's YouTube channel on Monday.

"It's a strength and a weakness, and I think that commitment, that passion for coaching has taken me from England to New Zealand, to Canada, and now Indonesia, to experience different cultures," he added.

Her career took the Consett, England native to the New Zealand women's national team, which she qualified for the 2007 and 2011 Women's World Cups, as well as the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Her achievements with New Zealand earned her a place on the Canadian women's national team, where she led Canada to bronze medals at the 2012 London and 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, as well as a gold medal at the 2011 Pan American Games.
