Kaops: 100 Yahukimo youths recruited as KKB members

Head of the Cartenz Peace Task Force Operations, Brigadier General Faizal Rahmadani, revealed that the Armed Criminal Group or KKB is currently recruiting around 100 young people in Dekai to become their members.

The recruitment was allegedly carried out to strengthen KKB personnel in the Yahukimo area, Papua Mountains Province.

"The youth recruited to become KKB members are generally under 21 years old," said Faizal Rahmadani in Jayapura, Papua, Wednesday

He said the recruitment was uncovered after the Cartenz Peace Task Force arrested several KKB members, including Junior Bocor Sobolim, who died while being arrested in Dekai on November 6, 2025.

The Cartenz Peace Task Force personnel then conducted an in-depth investigation until it was revealed that 100 youths had been recruited by the Yahukimo KKB.

The recruitment carried out by the KKB is suspected to be to strengthen the group's presence.

"The young people recruited are suspected of not having attended school and not having jobs, making them easily influenced," Faizal said, adding that this phenomenon should be a concern for all parties.

In the jurisdiction of the Papua Regional Police, the highest security disturbances carried out by the KKB were in Yahukimo Regency, resulting in 35 deaths.

"Going forward, we will focus on this matter so that they are given opportunities to work, by providing training that prioritizes local governments and stakeholders in the region, in addition to continuing law enforcement for those who commit violations," said Faizal Rahmadani, who also serves as Deputy Chief of the Papua Regional Police.
