Member of Commission D of the DKI Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD), Bun Joi Phiau, stated that the DKI Provincial Government must work optimally to deal with tidal flooding on the coast.
"All relevant authorities must act quickly to minimize the impact. Ensure the floodwaters recede quickly," Bun Joi said in Jakarta on Friday.
According to him, Governor Pramono Anung's statement that flooding in Jakarta could recede within six to eight hours must be proven in the field.
Bun Joi said that people living in coastal areas of Jakarta should not be flooded for a longer period of time. Therefore, real action is needed to overcome this problem.
"This must be proven, so that residents don't suffer for too long due to tidal flooding," he said.
He also asked the DKI Provincial Government and related agencies to work as hard as possible to control the situation.
However, Bun appreciated the quick steps taken by the DKI Jakarta Water Resources Agency in operating water pumps to hold back and drain tidal floodwaters.
However, Bun Joi continued to remind the Jakarta Provincial Government to ensure optimal flood receding times. Managing tidal flooding isn't just about pump operation, but also about the readiness of coastal protection infrastructure.
"Constructing a strong sea wall is the main foundation to prevent seawater from returning to inundate coastal areas," he said
Bun also urged the public to remain vigilant and build solidarity among residents in the face of extreme weather conditions and potential flooding.
"We urge the public to help and look after each other. In conditions like these, we must work together to protect our environment," he added.
