PBSI abolishes national training athlete promotion and relegation at the end of the year

The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) has taken a strategic step by eliminating the mechanism for returning and recalling athletes from the National Training Center, which had previously been routinely carried out at the end of each year.

In its official statement on Tuesday, PBSI stated that the policy would be implemented starting in late 2025 as part of efforts to maintain coaching stability and the continuity of the national training program.

The decision was taken after the PBSI Development and Achievement Division (Binpres) conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the National Training Center structure, athlete performance, competition load, and the effectiveness of the long-term program.

Head of the PBSI's Training and Development Division, Eng Hian, said the busy international tournament calendar, which has been running since early January, is one of the main considerations.

According to him, the National Training Center currently needs to stabilize the composition of athletes so that the training program can run continuously, especially in facing the increasingly dense competition cycle that demands readiness from the beginning of the year.

So far, the mechanism for returning and recalling athletes from the National Training Center at the end of the year has been used as a means of routine evaluation.

However, PBSI considers this pattern to no longer be fully relevant to current coaching needs, which emphasize program continuity, especially in the transition phase towards major competition agendas.
