Indonesian female judo athlete Novia Larassati admitted that her toughest opponent in facing the 2025 ASEAN Para Games (APG) Thailand is her senior compatriot, namely Marialam Sihotang.
Although she managed to win the gold medal in the women's J1/J2 individual event in the -52 kilogram (kg) class, she had to start a tough fight when she met Marialam, so she only won by one point or yuko until the end of the 4-minute time.
"I kept trying while praying, while looking for the right technique and moment to be able to throw the ball correctly," said Novia after receiving the gold medal at the Convention Hall, The Mall Korat, Nakhon Ratchasima, Friday.
In the first match of the final with a round robin format that pitted all participants against each other, only Marialam prevented Novia from getting an ippon or the highest score until the match time was over.
