The Spanish government will regularize undocumented workers. The measure was announced on Tuesday. To benefit from it, you must have resided in the country for a certain time and show your credentials.
''This process is aimed at foreign nationals who have stayed in Spain for at least 5 months before December 31, 2025. Asylum seekers who submitted their application before December 31, 2025 will also be able to benefit from it. Another essential condition is not having a criminal record. Persons participating in this process who meet the required conditions will be able to obtain a legal residence permit in Spain for an initial period of one year. After this period, they will be able to move on to the statuses provided for by immigration regulations, which will allow them to fully and gradually integrate into the system, underlines Elma Saiz, Spanish Minister of Immigration.
The decision concerns between 500,000 and 800,000 people. Many are Latin American or African immigrants who work in the agriculture, tourism or service sectors, pillars of Spain's growing economy.
Madrid thus opposes the tightening of immigration policies in the United States and a large part of Europe.
''Not only do we intend to continue to be a beacon, but I want to believe that we will be the germ and the center of the fight against the progression of this far-right wave which is trying to make its way and against which we will do everything in our power to stop it. With consistency, with values, and with what our country has always been. A country which has a memory, a country which was a country of emigration and which is today a country of opportunities. So, with all the legitimizations, I believe that today is a great day for our country.'', explains the Spanish Minister of Immigration.
Requests to regularize can be submitted from April after the entry into force of the decree taken with this in mind.
