The East Jakarta (Jaktim) Environmental Agency (Sudin LH) is targeting to resolve the waste buildup at Kramat Jati Main Market within five days.
"To address this situation, the East Jakarta Environmental Sub-agency is targeting completion of the assistance within the next five days," said Head of the East Jakarta Environmental Sub-agency, Julius Monangta, in Jakarta on Friday.
This step was taken following a significant increase in the volume of waste during the fruit season, which caused accumulations in several areas of the market.
A total of 25 auxiliary fleets were deployed to handle waste intensively so that the accumulation of waste does not disrupt market activities and the surrounding environment.
Julius stated that waste management at Kramat Jati Main Market is actually carried out daily. However, during certain periods, particularly during fruit season, waste volume increases significantly and exceeds routine handling capacity.
"Currently, the area's waste management capacity is around 160 tons per day. During certain seasons, waste generation can reach up to 220 tons per day. This means there is an accumulation or 'savings' of around 60 tons of waste every day," explained Julius.
In addition, he explained that the waste collection fleet is prioritized to carry out two transportation trips per day to the Bantar Gebang Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST) so that the piles of waste can be decomposed quickly.
