This Saturday, several thousand people gathered in Copenhagen to protest against Donald Trump's plan to seize Greenland and to defend the right of residents to decide their future.
The demonstrators, draped in Greenlandic and Danish colors, formed a red and white tide in the town hall square, chanting the island's name: "Kalaallit Nunaat! ".
Signs displayed slogans like "America, get out! " (Editor's note: translation of the English slogan “Make America Go Away”, ironic diversion of Donald Trump's “Make America Great Again”) or even "The United States already has enough ice" (USA already has too much "ICE").
Further gatherings are planned in the Danish cities of Aarhus, Aalborg and Odense, as well as in Nuuk, capital of Greenland. The organizers, including the Uagut movement and the Inuit association, want to take advantage of the presence of a delegation from the American Congress in Copenhagen to make their message heard.
The demonstrators denounce American ambitions and the threat of customs duties formulated by Donald Trump against countries opposed to his project. According to a poll published in January 2025,5% of Greenlanders are opposed to affiliation with the United States.
